OUR ORIGIN STORY

The Latino Leaders of Clifton was born from a vision of unity and empowerment, rooted in the desire to overcome internal divisions and strengthen our community. In 2022, during a private dinner at Noches De Colombia in Clifton, NJ, Councilwoman Rosemary Pino, along with influential Latino individuals from various nationalities, recognized a common struggle: internal divisions and a lack of mutual support within our community. Rosemary, the first minority elected to the Clifton City Council, saw this as an opportunity to create a unified front. She hosted the first official meeting at her home, setting the foundation for what would become a powerful civic organization. In 2023, we officially registered as a 501(c)(4) organization to amplify our collective voice and influence.

We Aim To:

PROMOTE UNITY

By bringing together influential Latino leaders from various backgrounds, we seek to overcome internal divisions and build a united community that supports one another.

ENHANCE REPRESENTATION

We strive to increase Latino representation and influence in local government and decision-making processes, ensuring that our community’s voice is heard and respected.

Image

EMPOWER THROUGH EDUCATION

Through initiatives such as the Hispanic Heritage Month Carnival and community programs, we educate and empower our community to recognize their potential beyond labor contributions, emphasizing the importance of civic participation and voting.

Image

ADVOCATE FOR EQUALITY

We actively work to identify and dismantle policies that are detrimental to minority communities, advocating for fair and equitable treatment in all areas of local governance.

SUPPORT NON-LATINO ALLIES

We welcome and support non-Latino individuals who understand the importance of our community and are committed to representing and advocating for our interests.

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Our vision extends beyond merely supporting Latino candidates for local government. We seek to build our own table of influence, strength, and respect, where Latinos are not just contributors but decision-makers. We envision a future where our community’s value is recognized in votes, not just labor, and where politicians seek our counsel and truly respect our needs and contributions.
